As a hometown band, I'm trying pretty hard to like these guys. But they're kind of sleepy. And they really don't bring anything new to the table. Like you said, they just combine a bunch of old stuff-- which itself can be interesting. But I'm not feeling 'er here. - D Marsh on Fleet Foxes.
While it's not top-to-bottom superb, Sigur Rós' new album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, has plenty to offer. There are six songs that could have descended from the heavens: Fljótavík; Suð í eyrum; ; Ára bátur; Góðan daginn; Festival; Við spilum endalaust. Where they would have wailed on the guitars on previous albums, they chose to go for a poppy sound here, e.g. Við spilum endalaust (great), Inní mér syngur vitleysingur (good), and Gobbledigook (not good, but the popular download choice on iTunes). Another impressive piece to the Sigur Rós puzzle. - D Marsh on Fleet Foxes.
I can do this for you, but tomorrow. - pablo on Fleet Foxes.
How about a Sigur Ros review? (I don't have it) - mmanesh on Would a Genetic Explanation of Homosexuality Help it's Acceptance?.
Because it is an activity that does not have the possibility of resulting in offspring. My guess is that social norms evolved around this fact to discourage sexual contact that will not result in offspring. - D Marsh on Would a Genetic Explanation of Homosexuality Help it's Acceptance?.
The Onion headline for this week is Gay Pride Parade Sets Mainstream Acceptance of Gays Back 50 Years. To honor The Onion, I'd like to form my responses as an American Voices article. Joseph Brother - "How can we have enough evidence that homosexuality has a genetic basis when we don't have enough evidence to believe in evolution, or even science? Lets look at John 3:18..." Kwame "Kwam-ay" Smith - Ugh... so you're telling me that I've been waiting for Patrick Swayze to turn gay for nothing? Barb Dillon - "So my love for my husband would come down to taking my daily medication? There's a Disney story." Speaking of The Onion, you must see their video Are We Giving The Robots That Run Our Society Too Much Power. - Joel on Would a Genetic Explanation of Homosexuality Help it's Acceptance?.
why do you think that we've evolved a dislike of homosexuality? My guess is that it would be entirely a cultural phenomenon. - mmanesh on Would a Genetic Explanation of Homosexuality Help it's Acceptance?.
I'm pretty sure a genetic basis for homosexuality would do nothing to help it's acceptance in society. I think there's an innate, visceral reaction that humans have to homosexuality-- one that's probably too also a result a of evolution. That doesn't mean that homosexuality is inherently wrong, just that generations of evolution have hard-wired humans to react that way. The only thing that's going to help its acceptance is the slow erosion of socially norms by liberal thought. But even then, pockets of bigotry will subsist, just as they do for racism, sexism, JttMism, etc. - +AFw-')/* on Hello world!.
ekibastos ekibastos - on I am 90% sure this is serious.
This website reminds me of that Christian ministries site that DMarsh discovered that had this blog going for a while. (I can't find the blog post for it now; I swear it must have been deleted!) That website was fake (but also hilarious). - bwb on I am 90% sure this is serious.

To clarrify, i did not shoot this video, and was not nearly that close to the stage, but the acoustics in the amphitheater were good, and Yorke's voice was amazing. I felt like these guys could record an album in one take. - D Marsh on Big Ideas (Don't get any).

but the point is that 1/10, 3/10, 7/10 and 9/10 are only interesting/useful because we happen to have 10 fingers. if we'd happened to have 12 fingers, 1/12, 5/12, 7/12, and 11/12 would become equally interesting, and 3/12 and 9/12 would be even more interesting because they would be 30% and 90% (assuming that 'cent' would have instead ment 120) and 1/4 and 3/4. - Joel on Goodbye Egypt - Personal Update.
C town is totally Chicago. I will be requiring your presence there, so you should not move until early August. Otherwise you're gonna feel silly coming all the way back to Chicago after you've moved. - ZMurder on Goodbye Egypt - Personal Update.
If C town is Chicago, then I may be able to head down and see you guys late July, unless we're moving then - zlindsey on Two Artists I like.
oddly enough, i was introduced to Murakami via an article on a blog pointing out Kanye's taste for modern art and design. Murakami did his last album cover, i believe. - MM on Personal Update.

Let's not forget that once upon a time I lived in the Seattle area, waiting for almost an eternity for all of you to show up like you said you would. But only some of you showed up, so I moved to Denver. I might return some day, but either way I feel like I have completed my part of the bargain. - Ben on Personal Update.

I heard Joel was moving to Seattle, because all of his friends are moving there, and its so awesome, and there was a blood pact-- he wasn't involved-- but he feels strangely compelled. That's what I heard. - zjohnson on Personal Update.

Anyone see Ronnie last night in Jazz/Lakers game 5? I didn't realize he was of the caliber to play in a playoff game much less guard Kobe Bryant. They said he was having troubles guarding him, but either way, it looks like he's on his way to being a badass. - zlindsey on Posting FYI.
